My research focuses on musical performance at the intersection of migration, politics, and religion in Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA). I am developing my first book manuscript, titled The Aurality of Displacement: Hearing Humanitarianism and Migration in Jordan, which investigates how music programs intersect with the global humanitarian industry.
My co-authored piece, “Generative AI for the Music Classroom,” was published in Ethnomusicology Forum (2025), and I have a forthcoming article theorizing displacement for the journal Ethnomusicology. I previously co-authored a piece on AI models for Arab music performance, and published a book review on the politics of art in the eastern Mediterranean. My next projected publications concern humanitarian governmentality and how the values and interests of NGOs inform music pedagogy. Looking forward, my next ethnographic project will focus on the politics of laïcité for Algerian music in France.
